Clear your calendar - It's going down! Open Art Lab presents 3D Printing + Design with Brian Chan kicks off on January 17th, and you're invited to take part in this introductory/beginners workshop. 934 Massachusetts Ave is our meeting spot for a day of fun and excitement. Come one, come all, bring a guest, and hang loose. This is going to be epic!
In this class you will learn how to create your own 3D designs using free and/ or open source software,
print prototypes and final models using readily available 3D printing services like Shapeways, and create designs adapted to the specific materials available.
Schedule:
1-2pm: introduction to using the Wings 3D software
2-3pm: creating own designs and best practices (instructor will be available to assist)
3-4pm: best practices for selecting a 3D printer, or printing through a service like Shapeways
Prerequisites:
none, makers of all levels of experience welcome
Materials:
Bring your own (paper) sketchpad or notebook and pencil for taking notes, a laptop computer and mouse; download and install wings3d from wings3d.com (compatible with Mac, Linux, and Windows)

About the Instructor
Brian Chan is an MIT alum, artist, craftsman, and teacher with more than 20 years of experience creating sculpture, costumes, and musical instruments. From complex origami to folding instruments and 3D printable articulated sculpture, Brian’s works share a common theme of articulated parts and complex transformations inspired from natural structures and science fiction designs.
